The Institute describes itself as the international professional body and learned society for all marine professionals providing ‘Professional development for those above and below the waterline…’
IMarEST was founded in the UK in 1889 to initiate professional standards and provide guidance for marine engineers. Over the ensuing century the remit of the institute has been widened to embrace science and technology alongside marine engineering – and today is an internationally renowned professional body with a major presence across four continents.
The IMarEST ‘Sea Your Future’ initiative provides resources and activities for trainees and cadets and those just starting out on their careers.
By joining the institute as a trainee you are eligible for free membership and you can take advantage of a range of resources including library and learning resources, a range of informative video content, access to marine professionals advice on marine career paths, and much more.
