Roles and Responsibilities
Highly advanced electronic control systems are now in widespread use in shipping fleets around the world. These systems require many vessels to employ a specialist Electro-Technical Officer (ETO). Officers wishing to qualify in this field follow a training and qualification process that is specific to the discipline.

ETO Course Structure
This is a three year full-time sandwich course.
Entry Requirements:
A minimum 48 UCAS points (as measured on the 2017 UCAS tariff) for Electro-Technical Officer training programmes, the subjects should include a numerate subject at A Level (e.g. Maths, Physics, Technological Studies). Acceptable alternatives include Highers, a National Certificate/Diploma in Electronic/Electrical or similar qualifications.
Qualifications achieved:
Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND).
STCW Certificate of Competency as Electro-Technical Officer (Operational)
Progression opportunities:
Successful completion of this programme gives entry onto B Eng (Hons) programme.
